- Place a penny vertically into the tire tread with the top of Lincoln's head facing down
- Move so you are eye-level with the penny and can see the face of the coin
- Look at Lincoln to see if the top of his head is still visible
If the top of Lincoln's head is covered by your tires, the tread is still good. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, your tires are balding and need to be replaced.
